As the World marks the World Refugee Day on June 20, The Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) pledges to continue to work for the tens of thousands of Tamil civilians languishing in Sri Lankan military run internment camps and for the welfare of those that have departed the camps but continue to face the likelihood of arbitrary arrest, detention and torture.

It also pledges to work towards overcoming the economic and social challenges faced by these Internally displaced Persons (IDP) and

stopping the colonization schemes planned by the military to permanently keep these people out of their homes. As a body representing and unifying the Tamils around the world, we will keep alive the memories of Tamil refugee life throughout the past five decades in all our endeavors.

The torch carrying young ambassadors of the TGTE

From May 17th to 19th, 2010, Tamil elected representatives from UK, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, France and Denmark Norway and Sweden came to Philadelphia, the historical land mark of USA for its independent in 1776 – for the first assembly of the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) with an illuminating message to the world that the democratic and political phase of Tamil people is well and alive.

Hillary Clinton’s Blessing On The Farcical Commission

Hillary Clinton, the Secretary of State of the United States of America, according to published reports, gave her blessings to the farcical commission on lessons learned and reconciliation at her recent meeting with minister G L Peiris. Hillary Clinton’s speech has been given high publicity and it could be of immense value as propaganda to the government whose human rights record has been challenged both locally and internationally.

Hillary Clinton in her speech evaded all the basic issues relating to this commission. She said that similar commissions have produced good results in other countries. In talking about similar commissions, she only was using the word ‘commissions’, rather than the content of the commissions. If she was referring to similar commissions such as the truth and reconciliation commission in South Africa, or some commissions in Latin American countries, these commissions and the Sri Lankan commissions have a world of difference between them. The minister for the media, Mr. Keheliya Rambukwella himself, clearly stated that this commission is going to be nothing like that. He said that this is going to be a very indigenous commission carried out according to local tradition. Sri Lanka lectures to the world on the levity of its war crimes and its serious breaches of the international law

After the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) government won the parliamentary election in April this year, Sri Lanka appointed a law professor, G. L. Peiris, as the foreign minister who, for the first time, makes his week-long official visit to the U.S starting May 23.  He the met UN Secretary, General Ban Ki-Moon, on May 24^th at the UN headquarters in New York, as well as the U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton on May 28 in Washington D.C.  The learned professor also met several other U.S. politicians and down played the serious nature of the crimes against humanity, the war crimes, and genocide. He also lectured to them that in so far as the Tamils were concerned they could not have been happier.

Peiris was rushed to the U.S. within a week of the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) holding its first meeting between 17 to May 19 at the historic National Constitution Centre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where the Constitution of the U.S was adopted in 1787.  William Ramsey Clark (a former US Attorney General) and Domach Wal Ruach (the Secretary General of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) USA) were named as keynote speakers of the inaugural event…………..  READ MORE

I do not understand why a country like India is worried about the concept of transnational governments. If Multinational corporations are allowed to operate as Transnational Corporations providing goods and services why not a body politic taking over the social and cultural need of a community? What other forms of mechanism is available to protect the numerically small minorities?

India must grow up to free its people from feudalism and living standard disparities. Why does it bother India if the Tamil brethren in various part of the world want to provide minimum basic living facilities to people in South India? Either they should go it or let some one else do it. The request to India is if you don’t want us to do it, you do it. All we are trying do is to equalise the disparity in the standard of living. No one is interested in diving India unless the Indian people feel that they are being marginalized. That is why India has to grow up. You cannot have it both ways. Either let the people go or let the people be free. Human freedom must be translated into Human rights, if not it is bound to fail. GL to raise Transnational Government issue with UN and US government

Sri Lanka’s External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L Peiris who is currently visiting the United States is expected to raise the issue of the Provisional Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (PTGTE) when he meets officials from United Nations and the US government.

Prof. Peiris who left Colombo on Saturday is scheduled to meet UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon on Monday at the UN headquarters in New York. He is expected to raise the issue of the PTGTE and is also expected to discuss the Secretary General’s decision to appoint a special panel on Sri Lanka and UN under Secretary General for Political Affairs Lynn Pascoe’s scheduled visit to the island. Prof. Peiris is also expected meet US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton on Wednesday in Washington DC along with senior officials from the US State Department where he will raise the PTGTE issue.

External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L Peiris’s visit to the US comes in the wake of  the first PTGTE meeting in Philadelphia recently which was followed by several meeting in European countries on May 2.

TAMIL DIASPORA DIVIDED OVER ‘TRANSNATIONAL GOVT’ – KARUNA

• Karu said that the diaspora had broken into three groups – US-based Visvanathan Rudrakumar, Norway-based Nediyavan and a London-based group.
• TGTE is “another pipe dream like Vellupillai Prabhkaran’s Eelam.”
• The Minister asserted the Tamil diaspora will not return to Sri Lanka and should create issues for their survival abroad.

NSW representatives for the Constituent Assembly of TGTE

Kulasegaram Sanchayan, Balasingham Prabhakharan, Dharshan Gunasingam and Seran Sribalan were elected to represent NSW in the Constituent Assembly of Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam.

The election to elect four representive from New South Wales, Australia was held yesterday, 22 May 2010. Six candidates contested for the 4 places.

Already six members representing other regions in Australia were elected unopposed.

Lanka cautions EU on Tigers

Sri Lanka has urged the European governments not to provide any political or symbolic support towards the LTTE’s initiative to forming a so called Provisional Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam.

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Belgium and Luxemburg and the EU Ravinatha Aryasinha said the LTTE’s initiative to forming a so called “Provisional Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam” (PTGTE), with “country working groups” at national and regional levels in western countries was a ruse to perpetuate its terrorist struggle.

Ambassador Aryasinha observed that these bodies constituted through pseudo elections and comprising largely of known LTTE members/activists, was being used by many Tamils who have entered western countries illegally, and who would in the normal course of events be sent back home given the restoration of normalcy in Sri Lanka, to keep the pot boiling and to seek to remain relevant in countries where they have sought asylum…………. Cancellation tactics make potential candidates withdraw from TGTE elections

Four candidates, including two who had come within the first five in the poll conducted 8 days ago for the TGTE in the London South West Constituency, withdrew their candidature Monday after there were delays in announcing the results. Dr. N.Sathiyamoorthy, Mr. A.Vairavamoorthy and Mr. David Joseph, candidates sharing a common opinion said in their withdrawal letter that “even though it was hard for us to come to this decision, we feel it is necessary to make such decision to take our struggle to the next level through the TGTE, without giving any room for the Sri Lankan state or the IC to shame our Tamil Nation.” The election committee delayed the announcement of the results citing ‘complaints’ and there were behind the scene manoeuvrings by certain members of the CWG that conducted the elections, in selecting candidates without a re-poll, said a journalist who did not wish to be named…………  READ MORE

Timely Over View of the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam

Q1. What is meant by a Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam?

The Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) is a political formation to win the freedom of the Tamil people on the basis of their fundamental political principles of Nationhood, Homeland and Right of self-determination. The TGTE is a novel concept both for the Tamil people and the rest of the world. At present the Tamil people have absolutely no prospect of articulating their political aspirations or of exercising their fundamental rights in their homeland itself.

Tamil Diaspora, an integral part of the nation of Tamil Eelam, utilizing democratic means in their respective countries, will establish the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) as the highest political entity to campaign for the realization of the Tamils’ right to self-determination.

Q2: Why a Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam? What is the necessity for such a government?

The social existence of the Tamil people depends on the preservation of their distinct political, economic and cultural way of life. The Tamils must have the ability to coexist and be co-partners with other communities around the world. To achieve these goals and to control factors that pose threats to their existence, there is a need for a strong and self governing political entity. These aims were given shape:

Eelam experiments: The transnational versus local realities

The Tamil diaspora has undoubtedly been very vocal during the last stages of the military offensive and has through its extreme activism summoned widespread international attention raising the question whether there has been an oversimplification of the power of diaspora activism. Their activism took the form of media campaigns and public protests which fueled nationalistic sentiments and crippled transport systems of their host countries but essentially their activism seemed to continue the chase after an unrealistic dream at an unbelievably high cost.

R. Cheran believes that this latest obsession of the Tamil diaspora, the Transitional Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) should be viewed positively and encouraged as an ‘experiment in democracy’[2]. STF arrests 2 Tamil youths in Batticaloa district for supporting TGTE

Special Task Force (STF) commandos on road patrol arrested a Tamil youth in Ka’luvaangchchikkudi and another in Kalmunai Wednesday evening claiming that the youths had mobile phones containing recent Channel-4 photos and other such film clips from some other websites, the relatives of the arrestees said. STF had told Kalmunai police where the two youths are detained that the youths are working in support of the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE), sources in Kalmunai said.

The arrested youths are Muthurasa Karunakaran of Maariyamman Koayil Veethi in Paa’ndiruppu and Kumarasamy Nadarasa of Eruvil. STF commandos arrested the youths when they checked their identity cards as they stood talking to their friends along the road. Meanwhile, STF harassment during road patrol has increased in the districts of Batticaloa and Ampaa’rai, residents in the districts said.

The politics of transnational Tamil Eelam Govt

A significant event in Tamil transnational politics occurred a fortnight ago in historic Philadelphia city in the US state of Pennsylvania. About 70 -75 persons gathered on Monday May 17th for a three-day conclave. The venue was the National Convention Center situated on Philadelphia’s Independence Mall at 525 Arch Street.

Both the dates and location were symbolically significant. It was in Mid-May last year that the Sri Lankan Armed Forces defeated the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) militarily at the Karaithuraipatru AGA division in the North – Eastern district of Mullaitheevu.
